Ben Topham is St. Lawrence's Youthworker.

Hi

I’m Ben and I coordinate the children’s and youth work at St. Lawrences Church.

I am married to Lenny, and we have a daughter Bethany, born in 2010.

I have been the youth and children’s worker at St. Lawrence’s church for over two years now. And I really enjoy working alongside the children and young people in the community. A large amount of my time is taken up with schools work. It’s a real privilege to have great links with so many local schools. In the high school I lead regular assemblies, do one on one mentoring, and help out wherever I can. Both of the middle schools also let me loose on their pupils with regular assemblies and RE lessons. Between Martin and I, we also go into every first school for assemblies and special events.

I also coordinate all the groups that happen at St. Lawrence’s for 0-18 year olds. We try to have groups for every age group which will nurture them in their faith, whilst providing age appropriate fun activities. Please take a moment to have a look at all the different groups we run at St. Lawrences.

So why do I do this? Well, I have heard two things said recently, both of which I passionately disagree with.

 

 Contact Ben:

“The bible doesn’t say much about children and young people”. This is only true if you don’t count children and young people as PEOPLE. I think we massively underestimate how much children understand, and how serious young people can get about their faith. The bible has everything to say to children and young people, and its part of my ministry to disciple young people and children.

“The children are the church of tomorrow”. Wrong. They are an integral part of the church TODAY. Some members of CYFA have recently started a CPAS course called growing young leaders. It’s my vision to have young people leading the groups and church while they are young.

I’m sure that as the groups continue to grow, both numerically and Spiritually, more and more people (who happen to be young) will fix their hearts on Christ and serve Him on their journey.
